Part I: The Why

Image "cut line" to be defined by KK.

Welcome to the new blog, along with the new website and some fresh work.

A new chapter is rolling ahead in my life and my work so it seems fitting to bring the website and my portfolio with it. With that movement comes a little momentum and an opportunity to clean things up and start becoming more efficient.

Sometimes efficiency means it may be time to cut-out a lot of things that just no longer pertain to the work, or maybe just don’t return on the creative investment. Sometimes that may even mean cutting out a good chunk of the work that I love.

In the past I have had so many great experiences working as a Director of Photography and producing great video content but as most who work in the field know, the energy and gear and money that goes into a creative piece of video is just so costly compared to the final result. It just doesn’t make sense to me, and no longer what I am really passionate about. And I think you should be passionate about it, especially if you are going to try to hammer-away at it until it’s able to support you financially or give you more time. Two things in this life that are important if you want to focus more on creativity and less on the stress. It’s cool, but someone else can push that stone up a hill.

Which brings me back to the “being efficient” part, and the “why” that steers my focus today.

In the next three blog posts I will touch on the 3 main things that have driven me to keep going in business, and help to guide me back to what I really love. In the past I may have just kept moving and found myself quite off target. I lift my head up and refocus, remind myself “why” I started, and again understand that this is something I was born to do.

Those who know me are well aware that I love all the shiny things and wish I could try everything. However, when I get to work with cool people and cool ideas and solve problems to create images that tell stories and make you think, I wonder why I do anything else.

For me, it’s the People, Portraits and Lifestyles.
